I sit on the edge of my oldest daughter’s bed. Outside, the snow is falling gently to the ground. My daughter is sobbing. There is no reason for the tears. She’s just out of sorts this morning. I hold her in my arms and sing. She snuggles in as the quiet song fills the air.
Oh holy night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
It is a song of hope.
We begin to pray. We pray for the tears to stop and for the Holy Spirit to comfort her and fill her heart. She draws a few more shuddering breaths and then all is calm. There is peace in the room.
She is heavy, but I carry her down the stairs to where the rest of the family is eating breakfast. It is noise and bustle when we are all together, but the feeling of peace lingers.
Sometimes in life, there are those days. Maybe it’s a trial or maybe it’s just everyday frustrations. But sometimes we need someone to hold us, to comfort us, to carry the weight.
I can’t help but think about the verse “the peace that passes all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. There is peace in the chaos. There is Someone to run to. There are arms to hold us.
There is Jesus.
Whatever you’re going through, big or small, there is Jesus and He is enough.
