The book Toddler Wise, by Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam, recommends that a child have independent, structured play time every day. This simply means that Mom chooses the activity and the time at which it happens. Usborne’s 50 Things to do with your Baby provides some great ideas for these structured play times.
Although structured play time is intended to be independent, some of the suggestions in 50 Things to do with your Baby require the help of an adult. I choose an activity card to do with my daughter every few days. So far, these have included, among other things: painting, blowing soap bubbles outside, making ramps for her little cars and then rolling them down the ramp, and making shakers (little noise makers).
We have both enjoyed the activities that I’ve chosen so far. This is a fantastic resource to use if you are stuck for things to do. Another great product from Usborne!
